Andrea Sutcliffe has been announced as the new chief executive and registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).

Ms Sutcliffe, who is the current chief inspector of adult social care at the CQC, will take over from interim chief executive Sue Killen in January 2019.
She replaces Jackie Smith as permanent the chief executive, who left the NMC in July this year.

Before becoming a chief inspector at the CQC, Ms Sutcliffe was deputy chief executive at NICE for seven years, and also held a role at the Social Care Institute for Excellence.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Sutcliffe said: ‘I am absolutely delighted to be joining the NMC as chief executive and registrar. The work of the NMC is essential in protecting the public across the UK and promoting the professionalism of nurses, midwives and in the future nursing associates.
